GRE General Test

Taking a Graduate Record Examination (GRE) test is an essential first step towards an engineering or business graduate degree. This section presents a sample test for GRE General Test, which consists of three sections: Analytical Writing, Quantitative and Verbal.

  • Verbal

    The Verbal section consists of analogies, completions, and reading comprehension passages. Multiple-choice response sections are graded on a scale of 200-800, in 10-point increments. The purpose of this section is to test vocabulary and ability to understand and reason on a subject. Usually, this section is 30 minutes long and is comprised of 30 questions.

  • Quantitative

    The Quantitative section is also a multiple-choice section. There are two major types of questions: problem solving and quantitative comparison. Similar to verbal section it is graded on a scale of 200-800, in 10-point increments. As of its structure, it usually consists of 28 questions (14 of which are usually quantitative comparison type of questions, 10 - multiple-choice discrete quantitative questions and 4 - data interpretation questions), and test takers are given 45 minutes.

  • Analytical Writing

    In Analytical Writing section test taker is asked to write two essays by analyzing, supporting and critiquing given topics. The full list of topics can be found on the official ETS GRE exam web page. The essays are assessed on the scale 1-6, this score is available only after a few weeks from exam.
